“WWE Monday Night Raw” continued to follow The Shield’s ascension, following their beat down on “Smackdown” last week of The Undertaker. Here is a look at what happened on the April 29 episode of “WWE Monday Night Raw.”
The biggest angle on the show surrounded The Shield. The group came out early on the show and talked about everyone they have beaten down over the last year in the WWE, including Big Show, John Cena, Ryback, Sheamus and The Undertaker.
In a curious move, 3MB came out and attacked The Shield, but were no match as The Shield began to get the upper hand. At that point, Kane and Daniel Bryan ran out for the save and The Shield ran. Then Kane and Bryan beat down 3MB. This led to the main event on the show.
Originally, John Cena and Ryback were scheduled to fight The Shield in a handicap match, but Cena has a torn Achilles so Ryback refused to team with him. Vickie Guerrero tried to team Ryback with Team Hell No, but Ryback walked out and John Cena came in to team with them instead, despite the injury.
The match was a pretty good match as The Shield continues to be impressive in the ring. Dean Ambrose got a lot of offense, and the end came when John Cena tried to hit the AA on Seth Rollins, but his Achilles gave out on him. That allowed Roman Reigns to hit his spear and he actually pinned Cena to give The Shield the win.
Impressively, there were three other fantastic matches on the show.
Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes fought in an amazing 16 minutes match. Rhodes reversed the RKO and almost won with the Cross Rhodes, but Orton kicked out and then reversed the Beautiful Disaster into an RKO for the win. It was one of the best matches Rhodes has fought in a long time.
Dolph Ziggler beat Kofi Kingston in a 12 minute match with the Zig-Zag in a champion vs. champion match. It was another great contest on a show full of them.
Alberto Del Rio beat Antonio Cesaro in a really good 13 minute match by catching Cesaro in the cross arm breaker. For a man who is supposedly getting de-pushed, Cesaro looked great in this match.
Other matches included Ricardo Rodriguez pinning Zeb Colter in a three-way that also included Big E, meaning Albert Del Rio gets to name the stipulation for the “Extreme Rules” world title match. Del Rio chose a ladder match. Naomi beat Nikki Bella by DQ when the referee realized that Brie switched places with her sister in the match. Jack Swagger beat Zack Ryder in a decent, but short match as well.
Also on the show, Sheamus beat up Mark Henry after Henry beat both Tensai and Brodus Clay in tug of war matches. Khali beat Fandango in a dance contest due to fan vote. Finally, in “Make a Wish Day,” John Cena brought out three children who got their wishes to be on a “WWE Monday Night Raw” episode.
