New Whitney Houston FBI files are making celebrity news headlines today, as Fox News reported this Monday, March 4, that the Federal Bureau of Investigation recently released new “secret” files to the public on several investigations that the agency looked into regarding blackmail and stalking on behalf of the late great Whitney Houston.
Under the headline, “Whitney Houston file released by FBI, shows agency investigated singer’s fan mail,” sources confirmed this week that records were released early this Monday morning that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had looked into a reported extortion attempt of the “Wanna Dance with Somebody” singer back in 1992.
The formerly hidden documents included an over 120-page file about Houston during a time when someone the star had “considered someone as a close friend” had later threatened to tell media about very personal information on the singer’s life. One letter shows that the “friend” had begun to blackmail Houston, saying that he was already receiving “six figure offers” from potential buyers of the information, and would want a similar monetary offer from her “so I don’t go public with the info myself.”
The FBI later interviewed Houston about the extortion; however, the detailed records from their talks together have been mostly redacted. The final result of the blackmail claim and agency files over, was found by prosecutors that no “official” extortion crime had been committed.
Another glimpse of information revealed the FBI’s investigation into one of Houston’s obsessed fans (not that much unlike her hit movie, “The Bodyguard”). The undisclosed fan in the Whitney Houston FBI files sent the star nearly 80 handwritten letters — some of these letters that cross over into stalking territory are found in the agency’s file, as well as letters sent to her friends and family members.
The fan was intent on meeting the singer, and wouldn’t give up until he had, he wrote in one letter.
“I might hurt someone with some crazy idea… if I don’t get to meet you,” he wrote.
The FBI once again deemed that no immediate danger or criminal threats were made in this case either. Although no new details were given on Whitney Houston’s personal life, the new files do unveil the strain and some of the difficult issues the legendary music singer endured during her lifetime.
