The History Channel’s new hit show “Vikings”aired its first season finale “All Change” on Sunday, April 28, at 10/9 central, which left fans hungry for season two. Even though no epic battles were fought, the focus on character development with several cliffhangers got fans excited for what will happen next.
On behalf of King Horik, Ragnar, played by Travis Fimmel, and a few of his men traveled to Gotaland to settle a dispute over some land, Jarl Borg, the local authority, claims to be his. There is some definite tension between Ragnar and his brother Rollo, which was even more obvious when Ragnar left Rolo behind as “security” for Jarl Borg, while Ragnar and his men went on a short trip to a religious site.
Meanwhile back at home people were dying from a plague that broke out in the village. Lagertha’s and Ragnar’s daughter was one who got sick, just like the priest Athelstan, Siggi – wife of the late Earl Haraldson, now involved with Rollo – and her daughter.
While things got more steamy between Ragnar and the new woman, Aslaug, things at home got worse and the people looked to Lagertha, played by Katheryn Winnick, for help. She made an animal sacrifice in hopes of appeasing the Gods. But it didn’t work for everybody. While Athelstan and Siggi got better, both Siggi’s daughter and Lagertha’s daughter died. And with neither Rollo nor Ragnar present, the women were left to deal with it on their own.
Maybe that is something that will bring the two women closer together in the next season? Or is Siggi up to something and just pretending to be Lagertha’s friend?
Back in Gotaland, Ragnar couldn’t help himself and slept with that strange woman and got her pregnant, while his daughter was dying back at home.
Ragnar had mentioned before how the Gods give with one hand and take with the other, just like when he became Earl, but Lagertha lost their unborn son.
Did Ragnar unknowingly sacrifice his daughter’s life to have another son by Aslaug? What do the Gods have in store for him?
His son Bjorn at least was very upset about his fathers infidelity and made him swear that it would not happen again. Little did he know that Aslaug was already carrying Ragnar’s child.
Meanwhile Rollo and Jarl Borg were getting to know each other better and when Ragnar returned and it was obvious that a deal concerning the land could not be made, Rollo chose Jarl Borg’s side and will go to war against his brother – in season 2.
What do you think will happen next season?
