Tax Day is here, and soon to be gone for another year. It’s been a long, cold stressful winter, and you’re ready to start taking care of yourself. Kick off our eventual spring the right way with a stylish evening of whisky and relaxing face care, courtesy of Truman’s Gentleman’s Groomers and Auchentoshan whisky. On Tuesday, April 16, you’ll be able to enjoy whisky and a hot towel shave treatment at Truman’s pop-up shop inside Murray Hill’s bi-level Tavern 29 (47 E 29th St).
Auchentoshan is one of the more unusual single malts out of Scotland. Produced at the Auchentoshan Distillery outside Glasgow (one of six distilleries in the Lowlands), it is the only one that triple-distills its single malts (much as Ireland commonly triple distills its whiskies), for added smoothness and a delicate flavor profile. We’re not certain what they’re tasting at the event, but if you can get a sip of the Auchentoshan 1999 Bordeaux Cask Matured whisky, do yourself a favor and ask for a second sip. Classic whisky cocktails, such as Manhattans, Rusty Nails and Old Fashioneds, will be poured featuring Auchentoshan.
Truman’s Gentlemen’s Groomers—an upscale men’s salon with locations at 120 E 56th Street and 121 Madison Avenue—launched its Tavern 29 pop-up this week, pairing with a variety of spirits and fashion designers to offer men an extended experience. “It’s about being able to offer our clients more than a haircut and a shave,” says Truman’s co-founder Joe Marchesi. “It’s about being able to extend added value to a man’s entire lifestyle.” The salon recently launched its Spa Shave services, an hour-long straight-razor shave which employs a number of facial care products including treatments for puffy eyes and a cooling Kyoku mask. It’s like a mini-facial along with a serious close, smooth shave. Participants at the Tavern29 event will get a taste of the $75 service with their hot towel straight-razor shave, along with a gift bag of Kyoku products. They’ll also have the chance to check out some of Truman’s new branded product line, set to launch next month, including shampoo (“The Cleaner”), shave cream (“The Protector”) and hair styling foam (“The Finisher”). “We spent years learning what men really needed, and wanted to provide them with the perfect product that might even offer a little more than what they think they need,” says Marchesi.
In addition to the whisky cocktails, guests can enjoy specially prepared small bites influenced by locally sourced ingredients, and receive gift bags featuring skincare products from Kyoku for Men.
The Gentlemen’s Evening at Tavern29 takes place Tuesday, April 16, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. To set up an appointment and learn more, contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 212.685.4422.
