The triggertrap mobile
The beauty of the Triggertrap mobile is the simplicity with which it is set up. Straight out of the box the dongle connects with your camera and smartphone. Within minutes you can be experimenting with the various time-lapse modes offered by the Triggertrap.
The Triggertrap Mobile offers 17 different triggering modes.
The most basic mode is the cable release mode minimizing camera shake for long exposures. More traditional time-lapse modes based upon time intervals (Timelapse, Star Trail modes) are included. An interesting variation on the timelapse mode is the “TimeWarp” that allows acceleration and deceleration of the photos.
In addition there are modes that trigger the camera on the basis of bangs or loud noises or seismic activity or vibration.
A very cool triggering mode is the “DistanceLapse”mode where the GPS in the smartphone is utilized to take shots on the basis of distance travelled rather than time lapsed.
Motion detecting modes and facial recognition modes are two more innovative methods of triggering the camera based upon the smartphones capability.
One mode that I’m not sure I would ever use (I’m really interested in seeing someones work using this mode) would the the Tesla mode where magnetism or proximity to metal can trigger the camera.
Using smartphone technology and marrying it with high quality DSLR’s and compact camera’s to create an innovative means of triggering the camera provides great opportunity to photographers everywhere to test their own personal creative limits regarding time lapse photography.
Examples of Triggertrap photographs
Rather than subject the reader to photos of my dog triggering the camera on the basis of the “Motion” and “Peekaboo” modes or my trip to the local grocery store based upon “DistanceLapse” and back based upon “Timelapse”, four of the most useful timelapse modes offered by the Triggertrap I thought it better to provide the reader with a sense of the sorts of photos they can accomplish with the Triggertrap.
Triggertrap has a dedicated Flickr site that has some dramatic and spectacular examples of just how creative you can be with time-lapse photography. Check out the work that some great photographers have accomplished using the Triggertrap mobile dongle. Very impressive!
