Summer will be here before you know it. Along with it will come the inevitable whine from the kiddoes, “I’m bored, there’s nothing to do.” Don’t let Summer boredom get you down. Here in Katy and Houston there are a number of excellent day camps and Summer programs to keep your little ones active and engaged. From science to acting to Rock-n-Roll, there’s something for every interest.
If you see a camp that interests you, visit their website for complete information on pricing and requirements. For instance, most camps do require that the 3-year-olds in their care be fully potty trained. Some will need immunization records or a physical exam prior to enrollment so be sure to check the fine print.
Also remember, some children will have a better time at camp if they go with a friend. Coordinate with the parents of your child’s friends and classmates’ to see if their children might enjoy the same day-camp experience. Then sign up, show up and make it a great Summer!

School of Rock Katy
Katy School of Rock – www.Katy.SchoolOfRock.com
At the Katy School of Rock, their motto is: INSPIRING THE WORLD TO ROCK ON STAGE AND IN LIFE
Are you dreaming of one day becoming a rock star? School of Rock’s one week performance camps are the perfect opportunity for kids ages 8 to 18 to live the dream to be up on stage. They are offering two skill level camps this summer; Rock Performance Camp and Beginner Rock Camp. Rock Performance Camp is for students who already have some significant experience with their instruments and want to expand that experience by playing with other musicians on stage. The material in these camps will tend to be more challenging and in some cases, focus on a particular genre of music or a specific artist or band. There’s even a History of Punk and a Green Day camp this summer.
The Beginner Rock Camp is for students who have little to no experience with their instruments but want to get a taste for playing in a band and rockin’ out. The material in these camps will not be as difficult and the set lists will be a bit shorter, but they will rock just as hard. Students are encouraged to get a little experience before the camps, so the school offers lesson packages for beginners to get familiar with their instruments before the summer comes.
All camps will include a combination of individual and small group instruction as well as full band rehearsals to get the students prepared for the show on the final day of camp. In addition to the music instruction, there will also be small workshops each day that will focus on elements of music theory, rock history, or band promotion.
The school has drum kits, amps, keyboards and rehearsal gear on site. Students playing guitar and bass should try and find their own instruments for the camp. There are a limited number of guitars and basses at the school.
