Desserts to share make anyone smile. Add some chocolate and possibly some alcoholic element to it, and you add a celebratory element to your indulgence. Here are some delicious and shareable treats that you can find around the Mile High City:
1.) Orange-ya glad this souffle has booze?! – D Bar Desserts
That’s the exact name of this smile-inducing creation. And if you love citrus in your sweets, this one’s for you. A grand marnier souffle with same-flavored anglaise and topped lemon meringue is accompanied by Meyer lemon curd “beignets” to add a great texture to the lightness of the dessert. While this dish is a winner, just about everything is at this popular after-dinner spot.
2.) Sticky Toffee Pudding – Colt and Gray
Sometimes simplicity is the best guiding principle when it comes to desserts. This one certainly fits the bill. Created with gooey sweet goodness like anything similar from your childhood, it also has a very grown-up accompaniment in homemade bourbon ice cream and toffee sauce. The perfect contrast of warmth and cool will be more than satisfying.
3.) Bacon – Bittersweet
Quite a few cupcake bakeries have a maple and bacon offering on their menus. It’s an unusual combination that provides the perfect proportions of sweet and savory. This simply labeled treat take that concept a few notches, with a light funnel cake, maple pecan ice cream, cinnamon cracklings, bacon-infused caramel sauce and the real thing, in a candied version.
4.) Cassata chocolate cake – Pizzeria Locale
OK, you’ll have to trek a bit for this one, all the way to Boulder. But once you know that this is from the folks who brought you Frasca (which happens to be next door), you’ll know it’s worth the trouble. Moist dark chocolate cake layers, laced with candied orange peel, creamy ricotta cheese, pistachios and almonds, will have you almost sweeping the plate with your fingers.
5.) Apple pie – Granny Scott’s Pie Shop
This bakery, located in a strip mall in Lakewood, may not give you the romantic atmosphere of the other places mentioned above, but you will get a darn fine apple pie that’s perfect for sharing. The flaky crust and balanced sweetness of the cinnamon apple filling work together to create something you could easily make at home but don’t have the time to do. Get it heated up and request a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a blissful a la mode treatment.
