72-year-old abortionist Kermit Gosnell could face the death penalty if he is found guilty on one of four counts of first-degree murder of four babies born alive in his West Philadelphia clinic. Gosnell is also facing charges of third-degree murder in the death of Karnamaya Mongar, a patient who died in his clinic in 2009.
Hot Air reports that in his closing arguments, defense attorney Jack McMahon argued that the prosecution of Gosnell was racially motivated.
Defense lawyer Jack McMahon delivered his closing argument on behalf of abortionist Kermit Gosnell on Monday, accusing prosecutors of “manipulating” the case to engage in an essentially “racist” prosecution of the man charged with four counts of first-degree murder, killing babies born alive during abortions by snipping their spinal cords with surgical scissors.
“Never have I seen the presumption of innocence so trampled on, stomped on,” said McMahon in court today, adding that the Philadelphia district attorney’s office “tried to manipulate everybody” and was pursuing an “elitist, racist prosecution.”
But earlier in April, The leaders of two black anti-abortion groups today denounced West Philadelphia abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell as a “racist of the worst kind” and a “butcher who preyed on the women and girls of his own race.” [Philly.com]
Vice President of Legal Affairs for Americans United for Life writes in The Washington Times: Kermit Gosnell is not an aberration. During the past three years, at least 15 states have launched investigations into abortion clinics and individual abortion providers for substandard care — care that in some cases has resulted in women’s deaths.
Meanwhile, as Cal Thomas notes, President Obama has an unholy alliance with Planned Parenthood.
Thomas writes: The president and Planned Parenthood’s other defenders claim that if the organization were to be denied tax dollars, there would be fewer mammograms, cancer screenings and other services available, especially to poor women. Is this anything more than a distraction from Planned Parenthood’s real purpose — providing abortions?
