If you are looking for a different way to sell unwanted or unused items online, there’s a new app that just might be the right fit. The new iOS app, called Sold, is available on the iPhone and works more like a middle man for getting the job done. Personally, I have sold things online over the past few years. My experience has been good and bad, depending on the service or app, so I am always on the lookout for a better way to make money off selling items.
The way Sold works is pretty straightforward: take some pictures of what you want to sell, add a name and description, and it finds a price and buyer for you automatically. Once you pack the box (mailed out to you free, including shipping label and bubble wrap) and ship your item, it collects the fee and deposits the remainder in your checking account.
This is really handy if you, like me, are not always sure how to price items for sale. Also, online auctions may take longer than you like, when you just want to get it sold. Third, listing on Craigslist or eBay may not be an option if you are wanting to avoid scammers.
How Sold is different than other sites, like Gazelle, is that you aren’t selling directly to a company. You are selling to a buyer that it finds, through a special algorithm, or “dynamic marketing”. Of course the fee might be more than you would expect, but for the legwork it takes off your hands, it just might be worth it.
Also realize that you can’t use Sold as your own personal yard sale. Because of how it is set up, you will expect to sell brand name, fashionable, and desirable items. Think of Sold as a virtual Platos Closet, but for more than clothes and accessories. Clothing, jewelry, household items, and especially tech, are included.
So will Sold be the better way to sell online? It certainly can be a viable option. The simplicity of the process is very appealing. If you have an iPhone, get the free download, and start using it to sell items today.
