Christ the Redeemer’s Religious Education Program is winding down for RE2012-13. But things are busier than ever. First Communion celebrations in English are scheduled for this weekend, May 4th and in Spanish for the following weekend, May 11th. Close to 100 families along with their friends and relatives are expected at each of these joyous annual celebrations.May 14th and 16th are the final Parent Confirmation Meetings for the additional 100 families preparing their children to celebrate Confirmation (and sometimes Confirmation with First Communion) in Fall later this year. Finally, Religious Education Classes come to a close that same week of May 13-16.
Early Registration Period
For those families with children and youth currently enrolled in the Religious Education Program, letters were mailed home with registration instructions and forms. Families are strongly urged to take advantage of the early registration period to enroll their children for next year (RE2013-14), especially if this is a year involving sacramental preparation. These families should register during these last days of RE Classes. The early registration period ends May 18th.
All registered parishioners may enroll for RE2013-14 beginning Monday May 20th. Forms and instructions are available in the RE Office during the weekday hours. In addition to these walk-in registrations, registrations will be taken after all masses the weekend of June 1-2. Families are urged to sign up during this period before public school ends and summer vacations begin.
Start of Classes/Registration Deadline
Classes are scheduled to start the week of September 16, 2013. The deadline to register is Friday, August 30, 2013. In the past, many families waited until the last minute in order to determine the schedule for other activities. However, families should take note that for certain things like Confirmation Preparation for those in Grade 8, Monday is the only day to enroll your child. Spanish K-6 is only available on Saturdays and English K-6, which used to have 3 days to choose from, now only has two. There really isn’t too much to decide.
The Religious Education program is always in need of volunteers to assist in tasks over the summer and throughout the ongoing school year. Those seeking Confirmation Mission Service hours might find some hours during the summer. However, the greatest need is always for catechists. For a parish the size of Christ the Redeemer, having such catechists come forward sooner rather than later is also an important part of the transition from one year to the next.
