Funny gay man Mikey Scott sets the stage a blazed with laughter every Friday night as he co-hosts the Mikey & Teddy Comedy Hour at Fubar in West Hollywood. I got to chat with Mikey about the show and a bunch of funny business! Enjoy
What happens during the Mikey & Teddy Comedy Hour?
What DOESN’T happen? We have a variety of guests whose only goal in life is to make you laugh so hard your vodka-cranberry comes out your nose. And each Friday Teddy and I bring a week’s work of pent up aggression at each other onto the stage so the audience can decide which one of us they are siding with that week.
Do you have guest comics?
We have anywhere from 4 to 6 guest comedians / musical acts / sketch troops every show. I mean, Teddy and I are good, but that crowd would tire of us eventually!
How long have you been funny?
Depends on what your definition of funny is. When I was 4 years old I was scared to death to flush the toilet because I thought Freddy Krueger would come flying out of it. I would go running screaming any time anyone else flushed it. That lasted 2 years. I was terrified, but my family thought it was hilarious.
I’ve been doing stand-up comedy for 6 years.
Is Teddy as funny as you?
I think we both know the answer to that…
Just recently THE GAY LIST dvd came out, who is on the dvd and where can people buy it?
I’m super excited about this. Dante, who performs all over the world and was on the first season of Last Comic Standing produced it, and Rebekah Kochan from a slew of gay indies hosts. All three QUEERS of COMEDY are on it, myself, Cory Schneider and Teddy. Also included is the amazing lesbian comic, Heather Turman and headlining is Joan Rivers’ right hand man/gal Tony Tripoli.
Who is your favorite comic right now?
There is a not very well-known comic who is just starting out named Twinkles. He is a twink puppet. For some reason his narcissistic bitchy attitude slays me. And the fact that he never ages baffles me. You can find him on Facebook.
What inspires your comic side?
Shame! I realized early in my career that the more I wanted to keep something under wraps because I was embarrassed, the funnier it would be. Plus, if it’s my deep dark secret, odds are I’m not the only one. The harder someone laughs at my shameful experience, the likelier it is they have a similar skeleton in their closet.
Where do you draw most of your material from?
I used to do a lot stories about dating. The way people act when they are trying to snag a lover, myself included, fascinates me. I have to warn any guy I go on a date with that from the moment conversation starts it’s all fair game. Sometimes I do change names, depending on if you left a decent impression.
If people want to stalk where where should they go???
I have a ridiculous blog of my own, www.mikeyscott.com. There’s no point to anything I write on there, but you should subscribe anyway.
I also blog regularly about dating and sex for Gay.net. A guy recently commented on one of those blogs that I should seek professional help. That made me feel like I have arrived.
And if you just want to hear me say something stupid from time to time, my Twitter accounts are @comicmikey and @mikeyandteddy.
