There has been buzz about the attacks on the Pagan writers home for a week or so ago but there had been little to no concrete information that showed that they were really happening and that it was not just rumor. On April 30, 2013 ABC News aired their interview with the author and her husband, Kryja and Randy Withers, and confirmed that the rumors we had been hearing are true. Its heart breaking to see this type of hate crime in a country where we are supposed to have the freedom to practice the religion of our choice.
The Withers home is a brightly colored home in New Port Richey that they refer to as the “Glitter Dome” and is filled with everything to make you smile. Kryja Withers said “we absolutely adore all the fun that goes with it, but the diversity that’s embraced is what also draws us in.” Attacks on the home have been violent in nature and are likely based on fear of the unknown as the Pagan paths are still fairly unknown to the majority of our population. “It’s a shame that this perpetuation of fear must continue,” said Kryja Withers.
Confusion between Paganism and Satanism has been going on for as long as Christianity has existed. Kryja said “we are perceived to be bad people and hurting children, and nothing could be further from the truth.” That’s not even the half of it. Pagans are often thought to worship the Christian created Satan and take part in horrifying acts of violence and disturbing rituals. What most don’t realize is that Pagans follow an old religious path that lives in harmony with nature and not only would a Pagan not do these horrible things, most are vegetarians, vegans, animal rights activists, and fight for the well being of all children and humanity.
In recalling one of the attacks Kyja said “I hear pop, pop, and something jumped off the wall at me and it turned out to be the shards of glass from the window.” Two weeks ago they also had two acid bombs tossed into their front yard. She said “we couldn’t sit down to our dinner table for one hour, not for one hour without being concerned that someone else was coming by to do something to us.” The couple now lives in fear of those that don’t understand what Paganism actually is.
The police department now has a parked car in front of their home to help protect them and they are getting assistance from the Lady Liberty League. Detective Greg Williams said “they are really good people and they don’t deserve to be treated like this. We are going to do whatever we can to prevent anything further from happening.”
They are raising money to pay for a security system. If you would like to take part in the fundraiser you can go to http://igg.me/at/kyrja/x/3136210
