NEW YORK.,– With the final two sections of a 408-foot spire to the top of One World Trade Center on Friday morning, makes the building the tallest in the Western Hemisphere. The city of New York can claim to be the home of the tallest building in the country.
The Friday edition of the LATIMES said “the finishing touch, performed by New York construction company Tishman, involved workers securing the final two portions of the spire with 60 bolts at 1,701 according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey..”
With the finishing touches of One World Trade Center’s spire, construction workers were in awe of the blue sky and cloud reflections around 8 a.m. Sudden moments of 9/11 and the strength of the American spirit hit bystanders and workers. Eddie Fackler said “You can’t take America down. We’ll rebuild….It’s a sense of who we are.” NYdailynews quoted worker Lenny Bednare of Forest Hills, Queens “It’s an honor working here. it’s just overwhelming.”
The 408 foot,758-ton spire beams an LED-powered light bulb that will be visible for miles along with the installation of the warning beacon. The tower is scheduled to be open in 2014,along with tenants such as the magazine publisher Conde Nast, Government’s General Services Administration and Vantone Holdings China Center.
The final installation of the spire signifies a new era in America, the rebuilding spirit of America. The need for a new tower which persevered through controversy, mourning and reflection to rise 1,776 feet tall, the significant date of America’s declaration of independence.
