Across America, headlines have reported many inappropriate relationships between students and teachers. In Ohio, accusations have tripled since 2007, according to Ohio Department of Education (ODE) records.
Offenses include: sexual text messages, threats, inappropriate Facebook messages, and sexual acts. The ODE has taken complaints from Centerville, Madison, Mason, Wayne and other districts.
Explanations for such bad behavior have been blamed on technology but state officials believe it’s a combination of technology and better reporting. With an emphasis on improving student performances and test scores, teachers have been more scrutinized than ever.
Inappropriate relationships between teachers and students have been revealed on social media outlets like Twitter and Facebook.
For instance, consider Stacy Shuler, 32, a former Mason High School teacher who had inappropriate relations with 5 male students. She was convicted on 16 counts of sexual battery and 3 misdemeanor’s involving underage students.
