Dancehall music welcomed the return of ninjaman at Sting 2012. Ninjaman, who has about thirty years of experience under his belt, graced the stage with the best of the best in the dancehall music industry in late December 2012. After his time in jail, it seems that ninjaman is only picking up where he had left off, before his incarceration over a few years ago.
After his release from jail, ninjaman was an independent artist, until he was recently signed to Downsound Records. Josef Bogdonavich, who is the owner of Downsound Records, realized the potential in ninjaman and brought him onto one of the fastest growing digital label’s for reggae and dancehall music.
Downsound Records is a relatively new digital music label. It has a reputation for breaking new talent and even re-sparking the careers of veteran dancehall musicians. Ninjaman has an erratic approach to putting out new music, and it seems to fit, the marketing and business agenda of Josef Bogdonavich’s Downsound Records.
After Sting 2012, people were uncertain about ninjaman’s future in the music industry, but Bogdonavich thought otherwise. Ever since coming on board to Downsound Record’s, ninjaman is up to his old ways with putting out fresh and quality music. On one of his most recent singles “Dweet,” ninjaman collaborated with fellow dancehall artist, Specialist.
In another song, he works with Skatta Burrell on the song “Ninja Mi Ninja”. The song has good cross over appeal and the buzz about the single is driving social media and the radio playlists into a tail spin. In the club scene, dancehall selectors are beginning to favor ninjaman over the younger dancehall musicians.
Since his time on Downsound Records, ninjaman seems more focused on the music. Having three decades of experience to his credit, ninjaman understands the approach for success in the music industry. As a new artist on Downsound Record’s, ninjaman seems to work well within the marketing and business model of that digital company.
As ninjaman continues to put out more music, the music industry must take note of a legend on the rise. Make sure to check out his website for any new music and upcoming tour dates. For fans who want to download his two new tracks, “Ninja Mi Ninja” and “Dweet”, then these are available online.
