The New York Yankees are ready for opening day on Apr. 1, 2013, but they will be without several of their most prominent faces when the opening pitch is thrown between them and their most bitter rival Boston Red Sox.
Alex Rodriguez is still set to miss the opening first half of the season as he recovers from hip surgery.
However, veteran captain Derek Jeter is still out and will start the year on the disabled list as he recovers from his fractured ankle.
Curtice Granderson broke his forearm in his first at bat during Spring Training and Mark Teixeira suffered a possible tear to a tendon during a World Baseball Classic exhibition game for the United States.
It will be interesting to see how the Yankee’s fare in the opening month as four of their most influential players will all be kept out of the dugout for at least all of April.
