Season 8 begins with Nancy in an induced coma after being shot in the head. After recovering the family is slowly put back together as once again Nancy tries to find a way to keep control and support everyone.
Mary-Louise Parker (Nancy), Hunter Parrish (Silas), Alexander Gould (Shane), Kevin Nealon (Doug), Justin Kirk (Andy), Andy Milder (Dean), Michael Harney (Det. Ouellette), Shoshannah Stern (Megan).
Weeds is back once again with a bit less weed in this season and a bit more drama. Though still quite good, the show is looking a bit more like a soap-opera and less like the quirky, silly comedy drama it was in the beginning. This season gets more interesting toward the end when we fast forward 7 years to see how things might change in the future.
Acting remains nicely done this season from the main cast; Parker, Parrish, Gould, Nealon, Kirk. All have matured and become comfortable in their roles which shows in the quality of performances. Stern was a nice addition and plays a new antagonist against Nancy quite well.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were solid with good detail and about what would be expected from a popular, well funded series. Physical effects were sparse but nicely done when used. Dialogue was excellent, delivering comedy, drama, and suspense while moving the story along at a good pace. Sound and soundtrack were good.
Though die-hard fans may be a bit disappointed at the stronger focus on drama instead of weed, the series is still quite entertaining and brings more than a few laughs. Those jumping in now will likely be lost by many references and cameo appearances.
With plenty of crude humor, foul language, explicit sexuality, nudity, drug use, and violence save this for the oldest teens and above.
Weeds is no longer showing in any Littleton Colorado movie theatres.
