On March 23, 2013, authorities confirmed using DNA that the blood found on a pillow last week near Keller Lake in Maplewood, Minn. is that of missing woman Kira Trevino, according to Twin Cities.
Although her body has not been found, authorities presume Kira is dead due to the large amount of blood found in both her home and her car.
Kira’s husband, Jeffery Trevino, 39, has been charged with her murder.
An amended complaint filed Friday indicates searchers found the bloody pillow in a sealed bag, which also contained a shirt, a sponge, and a sports bra, reports Twin Cities.
The legal document also states a woman told police she saw two men on the lake on Feb. 22 carrying an object the size of a person wrapped in something.
The amended complaint goes on to say that authorities learned that Kira and her husband were planning to separate.
The website reports that when police returned to the lake on Tuesday, cadaver dogs reacted positively to a hole that had been cut in the frozen lake. But, when divers searched the body of water, nothing was found.
Kira, 30, was last seen on the night of Feb. 21 leaving work at the Mall of America.
According to the original complaint, a surveillance camera at a gas station near the couple’s home caught a man pumping gas into Kira’s car at about 2 a.m. on Feb. 22. The man then drove the vehicle toward Interstate 35E instead of taking a direct route back to the couple’s home. The footage is too grainy to clearly identify the man in the video.
At 9:45 a.m. that morning, a security camera shows Kira’s car enter the parking lot at the Mall of America. The image is not clear enough to identify the driver, but shows someone at the back of the vehicle throw something, leave the car, and then get into a taxi cab. The cab had GPS and dropped the individual off near Kira’s house.
Twin Cities reports that when police searched the Trevino home on Feb. 25, they found blood spatter on a bookshelf in the master bedroom, on the bedroom door, around the closet door moulding, on the bed frame, and the carpet. In addition, the box spring of the bed was broken and contained blood spatter. DNA analysis determined the blood was Kira’s.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding Kira Trevino’s case to call the tip line at 651-560-3277.
