The Great Gatsby Soundtrack – Various Artists; May 7th
Jay-Z both produced and contributed to the soundtrack to one of the most anticipated films of the year. Lana Del Rey’s “Young and Beautiful,” The xx’s “Together” and Florence + the Machine’s “Over the Love” are enough to set this soundtrack apart from any other. It also features Jack White’s cover of U2’s “Love is Blindness,” and Beyonce and Andre 3000’s cover of Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black.” Directed by Baz Luhrmann, the genius behind Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge, The Great Gatsby is sure to be an epic story, accompanied by an epic soundtrack.
Random Access Memories – Daft Punk; May 21st
The fourth studio album from French electronic music has left fans salivating for its release, after eight years of patiently waiting for new material. Their first single “Get Lucky” features vocals hip-hop star Pharrell Williams, and has a great 70s disco vibe to it. Other collaborators include Julian Casablancas of The Strokes and producer DJ Falcon.
Trouble Will Find Me – The National; May 21st
The sixth studio album by Brooklyn-based indie rockers is already creating buzz in the industry. On their first single “Demons,” what Matt Berninger and co. create, just makes you believe in music again. Other tracks include “Don’t Swallow the Cap” and “I Need My Girl.” If these are any indication, this album is sure to be just as phenomenal as their previous ones. The National will also play a free show at Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto on June 14th as part of NXNE.
