Most of the conservative – and very large – Osmond family has been very outspoken on their stance against gay marriage. However, Marie Osmond, has gone against her family to share her support of marriage equality on multiple platforms. According to a March 30, Perez Hilton report, Marie has been a gay rights advocate ever since her daughter, Jessica Blosil, came out as a lesbian as a teenager.
Osmond was raised a Mormon in an extremely religious household. Jessica’s sexual orientation caused Marie to rethink her believes and the stance the church teaches. Osmond spoke to Diane Sawyer on ABC about how important it is for every citizen in the United States to have equal rights.
Jordan Jones told his parents he was gay when he was sixteen and was immediately disowned. He said, “While many parents disown gay children, it is refreshing to see a celebrity who is not only proud of her daughter, but willing to fight for her to have equal rights – even if it means going against her family and church.”
Sawyer found Marie’s advocacy for gay rights and support of marriage equality so inspiring that she named Osmond her “Person of the Week.”
