The Portland Trailblazers and the NBA have set a conference on Wednesday to make an announcement, reports the Oregonian on April 30. Fans and media speculate that this big announcement will be Damian Lillard’s Rookie of the Year award. It is not yet official, but seeing that he did win Rookie of the Month for all six months of the 2012-13 season, there is little to no chance of Lillard not being named.
Although the Portland Trailblazers did not make the playoffs this year, rookie Damian Lillard was playing like a champion In his rookie season, Lillard sunk 185 3-point shots. This is a team record for the Trailblazers and it also takes the record for the most 3-pointers in any rookie season in NBA season. He doesn’t stop there though, with the records.
Lillard played more minutes this season than any other player, coming in at 3,167 total minutes played in the 2012-13 season. In those minutes, Lillard averaged 19 points per game, as well as 6.5 assists and 3.1 rebounds. He will be one of only four Portland Trailblazers to be named Rookie of the Year.
Lillard will only grow and get better from here and that is exciting for Trailblazers fans. Now, they just need to put some big men around him and it may be a new era for the Trailblazers franchise and expected Rookie of the Year, Damian Lillard.
