Laughter is said to be the best medicine. It’s also an excellent deterrent to violence, when partnered with LOVE, a Montreal-founded non-profit organization. This Friday, a roster of local comedy stars hit the stage to raise funds and awareness for LOVE, promising an evening of non-stop hilarity and positive vibes.
The event is organized by beloved comedian and motivational speaker, Michael Lifshitz, a longtime advocate of LOVE’s, who’ll be performing as well. He is joined by other Montreal favorites: host Mike Costello, Richard Thomas Mullan, Leonard Yelle (and his dog), Heavy T, Ali Mohammadi and Hrair Alex Tarpinian, along with headliner Darren Henwood and LOVE’S own Hakeem Samu.
LOVE, an acronym of Leave Out Violence, is dedicated to helping eliminate violence among the city’s most vulnerable population, its children. Their mission is “to reduce violence in the lives of youth and in our communities by building a team of youth who communicate a message of non-violence … Through their multimedia programs, LOVE teaches youth non-violent ways to express themselves and in turn, become leaders to encourage others to reject violence from their lives.”
Tickets, available on line or at the door, include door prizes and drink specials throughout the evening. In addition to their ticket purchase, LOVE kindly asks audience members to bring a non-perishable food item, or $2, to benefit Community Shares West Island.
