When the Alhambra Theatre & Dining opened its 2010 season owners vowed a return to the Theatre’s glory days featuring “big stars” in their casts. To launch that concept, they brought in Emmy® Award winner Loretta Swit for the world premiere of “Amorous Crossing” – and Swit filled the building. Now Swit returns to the Alhambra in what should be another packed house in another great comedy, “Murder Among Friends”. Opening May 8 for only four weeks, Swit plays the lead role in this murder mystery. Never before produced at the venerable Alhambra, “Murder Among Friends” was called by the New York Times, “Clever, amusing and surprising.”
Swit returns to the Alhambra by popular demand and by request of Managing Partner, Craig Smith. “We’ve become very good friends,” said Smith of Swit. “Since she was here in 2010, I don’t think a month has gone by in which we haven’t spoken. We’ve talked constantly about her coming back to the Alhambra, and she suggested this show. Our customers always ask when she’s coming back. This is a great fit for all of us and we’re really looking forward to having Loretta back with us in May.”
Story Line: The play is set in the swanky New York duplex of actor, Palmer Forrester. Palmer’s wife, Angela, and his agent, Ted, are lovers who plan to murder Palmer during a contrived robbery on New Year’s Eve. However, the actor and the agent also have a plan to murder the wife. A murder occurs, but not the planned one. Written by Bob Barry, Murder Among Friends opened in 1975 at Broadway’s Biltmore Theatre, and starred Jack Cassidy and Janet Leigh. Swit will play Angela Forrester, the role played by Leigh in 1975 and 1976.
As he does with each show, Executive Director DeJuan Roy has created a menu specific to the themes of the show. The first course features Chilled Potato & Leek Soup or Summer Salad with Mandarin oranges, strawberries, cilantro, feta cheese, sweet & spicy pecans with a home made cilantro lime vinaigrette dressing. For the main course guests may choose from Roasted Chicken Salad with seasonal berries, Moroccan Fish with couscous and roasted asparagus, Chef DeJuan’s Now-famous Prime Rib with Texas red potatoes and green beans or Eggplant Napoleon served with a summer vegetable medley and baked pasta. For dessert, the choices include Country Strawberry Shortcake or Banana Bread Pudding. The Alhambra’s dinner service will be plated and served to your table.
