You can feel the pulsating vibe the minute you pull up at the port cochere at Loews Hollywood Hotel which is bustling with people going in and out of the front door. Many are heading to the inviting lobby bar, checking in, or attending one of the many conventions held there.
Formerly the Renaissance Hotel, Loews took over the 632-room property last June (2012) and is gently converted to its young, signature style. One of the main draws is the exhale spa, which recently parked itself on the fifth floor of the building in the former Spa Luce.
The engaging urban sanctuary feels good the minute you walk in. A cheery, helpful receptionist escorts you to the dressing room and blissful lounge where you’ll wait for therapist to come fetch you for a treatment. There’s a plush robe and slippers waiting in your locker and an aromatherapy steam bath to relax in before your massage, facial or body session.
Sweet scents fill the air and prepare you to unwind and relax. And if you book a couples massage with Tiara and Tyler, you will do just that. Trained in chiropractic techniques, the duo turned Richard and me into pulps. We had side-by-side tables with heated linens, but we spoke not a word while our talented therapists perfumed their magic kneading and rubbing away every last ache and pain. It was a Fusion Massage that costs $130 and was worth every cent. So much so, we actually booked a follow-up.
We completed our spa day with happy hour at the lobby bar which is offered from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and features $7 drinks and small bites. You can had a mini cobb salad, fried shrimp and chips, steak quesadillas or flat bread washed down with a Madonnariata (margarita), vodka and cranberry juice, Darkhorse Chardonnay or cabernet, or a drink called Walk of Fame that is made with gin and muddle cucumber. Of course there are other offerings but they cost more.
Adjacent to the spa is a very well used fitness center. Just outside the door is the rooftop pool, which yesterday was well occupied by hotel guests swimming and sunning.
Located in the heart of tinsel town, just steps away from Hollywood and Highland, the paradigm of entertainment, shopping and dining complexes, Loews is the perfect place to for a staycation or romantic date night away from home.
It’s also ideal during those times when you feel the urge to recharge the batteries with an overnight spa package that includes a Junior Suite accommodation, a couples Fusion Massage at exhale spa and a copy of the book “Top Trails: Los Angeles: Must-Do Hikes for Everyone” (Wilderness Press, 2010). It costs $319 and up and is based upon availability. For reservations, call 800-23-LOEWS or visit www.loewshotels.com/hollywood. Be advised that black-out dates and restrictions may apply.
