The 2013 NFL draft is around the corner.
Unlike last year’s draft, which consisted of Robert Griffin III, and Andrew Luck, the 2013 draft is said by many NFL critics of not having enough elite quarterbacks.
There is one quarterback that may not be receiving enough attention. Landry Jones, (Oklahoma’s former quarterback), is one of the best polished quarterbacks entering the draft.
Jones stands at 6’4, 230 pounds. Jones is a solid athlete. He stands in the pocket well, and is able to spread the ball around. His height plays to his advantage. One of his strongest strengths is how accurate he is with his passes.
Jones is a good decision-maker. He is able to make throws from all over the field, and one of his strengths is the “short-pass”. His leadership ability will also impress NFL scouts. Jones played a total number of 53 college football games, unlike many quarterbacks.
Some of the weaknesses that Jones has to improve on is his consistency throwing the deep ball. Jones doesn’t have the mobility like Colin Kaepernick, and Russell Wilson, but makes up for it in other areas. Many NFL critics also question Jone’s ability to play under pressure. Jones is said to have “mental” lapses.
If Jones is given the right tools around him, he can grow into a strong, solid quarterback.
One landing spot that will fit well for Jones is with the Arizona Cardinals.
Larry Fitzgerald is dying to have a quarterback that is able to get him the ball. With the addition of Joshua Cribbs, and Rashard Mendenhall, Jones will have the ability to grow into the quarterback role and learning from arguably the NFL’s best receiver.
Like many first year quarterbacks who sit and learn, Jones should be given the opportunity to start as the Arizona Cardinals quarterback immediately. With a quarterback roster that includes Drew Stanton, John Skelton, and Brian Hoyer, the quarterback situation couldn’t be more dire than it already is in Arizona.
In either case, Landry Jones has the skill set to excel at the next level. The only question that remains to be seen is if he will get a chance?
