Pardon the poor grammar in the above title. You likely have heard the phrase coined by the late, great San Antonio sportscaster Dan Cook that has probably gone around the world: “It ain’t over ‘til the fat lady sings.” (pardon: no offense meant to those who struggle with weight issues) But regardless of whether the “fat lady” has sung, expired or retired to a mobile home park in Podunk, Iowa, I have good news! In fact, with all respect to Dan Cook, it doesn’t matter what that lady does.
Because Jesus Christ has risen, so it “aint’t” over regardless of what has happened in your life, or how you feel! You may feel that you have failed and blown it beyond any hope of restoration. Or you may feel betrayed and let down by others, and a most precious relationship was demolished. Or you may have been waiting a long, long time in hope of such a special relationship without any ship of hope yet to appear on the horizon of your life. Or even more tragically, you may feel chained to an abusive relationship.
But your hopes and dreams are not over-because Jesus Christ has risen! New hope and new beginnings await right before you. Papa God through Jesus has no problem restoring and renewing your hopes and heart and lost dreams.
You have been laid off and lost your position of many years. Or your dreams of having a successful business or career may not have ever materialized. Or you may be stuck in a dead-end job where you and your talents are not appreciated. Or you may be struggling just to make ends meet and merely survive. Or you may be homeless and without hope!
But you have hope. All is not lost for Jesus Christ has risen! Your life is not over! In Jesus, your life is only beginning. For he is the God of second chances, and when needed …. third, and even fourth, etc!
You may be an elderly person forgotten in a nursing home. Or you may be an orphan who doesn’t know who your parents are, and who has been cast from one foster home to another. Maybe you don’t feel loved or understood. You may be a young man or woman being held and abused in a sex trafficking ring. You may be a student who other kids make fun of or even bully. You may feel your life is hopeless, without worth or purpose. You may even be thinking of taking your life. But wait, it isn’t over. There is real hope. You do have a purpose and you are of eternal worth and God has a wonderful plan for your life despite how things appear now. For Jesus Christ has risen and conquered all sin, death and evil and come to give you new life and new hope! Call on him and he will make a way for you!
You may be a soldier serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, who has seen dear buddies lose their lives, and you wonder if death is knocking on your door. You may be an atheist whose deep pain and brokenness and the ugliness of life in this world makes it too hard for you to believe in a God of love and goodness. But you so long for hope and purpose in this world. You may be a man or woman, who perhaps even grew up in the church, but the hypocrisy and judgmentalism of shallow religion left you wounded and empty. But now you find yourself bound in chains of steel to the darkness and destructive power of some sin that holds you in its grip of despair and death — and it won’t let go – regardless of how hard you try. Friend, I have good news! It’s not over – not by a long shot because Jesus Christ, the Son of God has died and rose again to conquer death, hell and the grave! He knows just where you’re at and feels all you feel, and he loves you right now, just as you are. He says “It is not too late. Come unto me all you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest. I have come that your sins may be forgiven and cleansed, that you may be healed, restored, and given new and full life and hope. I will restore your heart and your hopes. For I bind up the broken hearted. I will give you peace and joy. I have a wonderful plan for your life, far more marvelous than your heart or mind can conceive now. So come unto me and receive my love, forgiveness and new life! For I have risen and am alive forevermore!”
So friend, whoever you are, and wherever you are in life – regardless of what you have done, or what has happened to you — it is not over! You are greatly loved and you are special. And your life before you is wonderful and just beginning regardless of your past. Real life and real love await right before you. For Christ Jesus has risen. He has risen indeed!
