What is Agenda 21
It’s being described as “constitution of the New Green World Order,” environmentalism as its surrogate religion, “we learn to live, eat and communicate because we must save the earth.” HuffingtonPost has an article out making the rounds in which State rep. Al Baldasaro, a Republican legislator in New Hampshire is saying the United Nations sustainability initiative known as Agenda 21, is being used to ban fishing. If you look around on the internet and on the news, you will find many who are against what they feel to be a litany of tyranny and what they are calling a form of “communism” in the name of Agenda 21 and taking care of the earth in the form of true conservation. What’s the problem with Agenda 21 in their eyes? Equality for all marine and wild life, for men and women, and the earth. But they are a calling it communism, socialism, “control” and a host of others.
It has nothing to do with cutting off fishing, or cutting of property rights, but if you listen to their lobbyists and activists they will tell you otherwise. There is no lead or plastic tackle ban. Check the group that is growing in number called, Activists Fighting Green Projects, they want to get you excited and upset and involved in their cause. There’s no reason. They are causing people to rally in large numbers against any form of sustainable development, showing up at planning meetings for bike lanes and preserving open wilderness for wildlife, calling it a “United Nations Plot.” Keep your wits about you and remember what is important.
All levels of government are being asked to step up and make sure the natural resources, marine and wildlife and human beings are taken care of and no longer abused or exploited.
Nowhere does Agenda 21 speak to banning fishing on any level
But those who are against the proper care of wildlife and the natural resources of earth would have you believe it’s all about banning fishing, just to get another population of people upset and involved. Alabama is the first state to prohibit the government participation is agenda 21. Activists associated with the Tea Party movement, by the New York Times and Huffington Post has said Agenda 21 is a conspiracy. Glen Beck says it is a method of ”control” of all human life on the planet. Trying to find straight information about Agenda 21, that is not tainted in some way, is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
There are four sections to Agenda 21
It is not a treaty or a law but a comprehensively documented status report of concepts across the world, not just of the United States, but to promote and protect human rights, gender equality, and the integrity of the environment through sustainable development.
1 .Social and Economic Dimension, combating poverty in developing countries, changing consumption patterns, promoting health, achieving a more sustainable population, and sustainable settlement in decisions making.
2. Conservation and Management of Resources for Development, which includes, atmospheric protection, combating deforestation, protecting fragile environments, conservation of biological diversity, control of pollution and the management of biotechnology and radioactive wastes.
3 .Strengthening the Role of Major Groups, the roles of children and youth, women, NGO’s, local authorities, business and workers and strengthening the roles of indigenous peoples, their communities, and farmers.
4. Means of Implementation includes science, technology transfer, education, internal institutions and financial mechanisms.
What does all of this have to do with fishing
The impacts of extreme weather exacerbate existing inequalities or imbalances in marine and wildlife, in natural resources, and on human beings because those with the fewest resources are susceptible to the negative effects. The tremendous impact people face in equal decision making across the board is crucial to contribute to and benefit the changes in care of the environment.
The poor and marginalized people are more reliant on the environment for their livelihoods and so the impact of environmental degradation is more strongly felt in terms of income and health. The United Nations has agreed to adopt this concept of documentation because they can see the inequalities across the board in environmental sustainability as an issue of different levels of access to: eco-services for livelihoods, health, clean air, water and renewable energy between the rich and poor countries, and the rich and poor within each country, in the rural and urban populations and with the current and future generations.
The folks involved want recreational fishing enthusiasts involved and upset, because they represent millions of dollars and power.
Why does inequality undermine environmental sustainability
Why should equality be at the center of all of this? Because there are differing levels of opinions and sensitivities. Those who poach and smuggle have a completely different sense of the environment compared to those who fish for recreation and enjoyment, or those who are feeding their families. There are people involved in the demise of Agenda 21 outside of the United States, who come here from other countries, who want you to think this is coming from inside the United States, so that you will turn against your government. The opposite is true, and so many are already involved it makes it hard to know who to trust.
What accountability mechanisms need to be in place? What needs to be in place now to be sure that the “new world order” recognizes human rights, and environmental sustainability?
These are not issues that are being addressed across the board by governments across the world, but they have every single thing to do with peace and security of every living thing on the planet, including the planet. If the people in opposition to Agenda 21 could stop underscoring the need to separate people and reach across party or sectorial lines, find the unlikeliest allies and establish one common ground, this is what inspires transformation.
Engaging each other in frank conversation about each other’s work, strengthening alliances, allowing future cooperation, challenging or suggesting how it might go wrong and in a shared view of the future will make these talks productive.
