I was sitting in the “His & Hairs Spa” the other day waiting for a pedicure and reading this month’s issue of Woman’s Day magazine when I came across an interesting article. I like to get a pedicure once a month, that way I don’t have to spring for a subscription to Woman’s Day. You may ask, “Why’s a he-man like Rus getting a pedicure?” Well, I like Asian girls touching my feet. I’m funny that way.
Anyway, this article was about foods that actually fight wrinkles. I glanced over at the gal sitting next to me and thought I better leave the magazine open to the page about wrinkles when I was finished. Hopefully she would notice it; she had more wrinkles than a Shar Pei.
My daily skin care regimen consists of an application of “Garnier Ultra-Lift Targeted Line Smoother” every morning. It smoothes and tightens in just one use. I think it’s the natural pro-retinol and hyaluronic acids in it that give my face that healthy hydrated sheen and erases the crow’s feet and laugh lines. I tend to crow and laugh often, so you can never be too careful.
If I’m going to the beach, which I try to do three or four times a week, I’m careful to wear my umbrella hat and slather on my favorite sunscreen. I use “Yes to Cucumbers Soothing Natural Sun Inhibitor” with an SPF of at least 395.
But I didn’t realize that there are actually certain foods like avocados, dried fruit, watermelon and flaxseed that are rich in antioxidants like beta-carotene, lutein, lycopene and omega-3 that fight wrinkles. I prefer omega-3 over omega-2 or just plain old omega.
So on your next day on the beach I have prepared a menu full of antioxidants that will pack up nicely in a cooler and fight off wrinkles, strengthen your skin and ward off aging.
SPF 395 Guacamole
6 Avocados, Seeded and Peeled
¼ Cup Sour Cream
Sea Salt/Freshly Ground Black Pepper
3 Tbs. Radishes, Thinly Sliced
3 Tbs. Grape Tomatoes, Sliced in Half
3 Tbs. Vidalia Onion, Diced
1 Clove Garlic, Smashed and Minced
2 Tbs. Jalapeno, Sliced
Juice of 1 Lime
3Tbs. Cilantro, Chopped
Place the avocado meat and sour cream in a food processor. Season with salt and pepper. Pulse until creamy and remove to a serving dish. Stir in remaining ingredients and garnish with cilantro. Serve with Flaxseed Corn Chips.
1 Shot Crème de Almond
1 Shot Midori Melon Liqueur
1 Shot Coconut Rum
3 Oz. Pineapple Juice
Splash of Grenadine
Slice of Watermelon
1 Drink Umbrella
1 Bendable Sippy Straw
Pour the alcohol and pineapple juice in a shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into a hurricane glass and garnish.
Do what I do and be kind to your skin everybody, I’ve got to go get my pedicure.
