May has been officially declared as the “Interviewing the Indies” month. As such, all month there will be posts containing interviews with indie authors. Today’s guest is Robert Evert, author of fantasy novel Riddle in Stone.
What do you have published?
My first novel just came out, Riddle in Stone. It’s listed as an “epic fantasy” but really, it’s a simple story about a guy who stutters and feels like a loser. He goes off to try to become a hero, only to realize that being a hero isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. There’s also a bit of a love story to it.
What are you currently working on?
The third book in the Riddle in Stone series tentatively titled, Blood in Snow. That and raising two kids!
How do you stay motivated?
I can’t stop writing. It’s a compulsion. I have to write. If I don’t have at least one story on my computer, I feel all out of sorts. I’m not sure what’s wrong with me.
What has been the most challenging aspect of being an indie author?
I think the most challenging aspect is getting word out about the book. It isn’t as if the small publishers have a marketing campaign for all of their books. So, if an indie author is to do well, it has to be through word of mouth.
Also, dealing with “bad” reviews is extremely difficult, especially when the reviewers bring up something that is completely justified or they find a flaw in the plot. It’s like a knife in the heart!!! Ugh!
As a writer, what is the one thing you cannot live without? Why?
I couldn’t live without the support from my wonderful wife and my G+ friends. Honestly, I have never met so many incredible, supportive people! I couldn’t get through the day without them cheering me on! Thanks, everybody!
You can purchase any of the Indie Adult Books from amazon. Stay tuned for more Interviewing the Indies, happening all May long!
