For Kaz Silverwynd, graduation from the Galarian Knight Academy begins normally, but an the attempt on the life of Xul Xandu, the newly-appointed head of the Confederation of Nations, pushes Kaz and his team into an epic and dangerous adventure. The action ranges from the floating city of Civitas to the underwater empire of Aequoria to the moon colony of Ourea. Kaz leads his band of knights on a perilous journey to stop a madman from achieving his ultimate goal – the conquest of the world of Galaria. Added to the already volatile mix are the legendary Crystals of Power, a collection of beautiful but deadly jewels that could tip the scales of power toward good or evil.
This is the exciting premise behind O.S. Gill’s new sci-fi/fantasy, The Knights of Galaria: The Crystals of Power. O.S. is here to talk about his book, the writing life and if self-publishing was the right choice for him.
Thank you for this interview, O.S. Can you tell us a little about yourself and how long you’ve been writing?
I have been writing just a little over two years now.
Can you tell us briefly what your book is about?
My novel The Knights of Galaria is about a team of young knights on a far off world called Galaria. It starts on the day of their graduation from the Knight Academy, when there is an assassination attempt on the Secretary of the Confederation of Nations, who is a guest speaker. This gives the team their first mission of finding out who is responsible, and this spills into a much greater adventure, with their pursuit of the main antagonist all across the world of Galaria.
Why did you choose your particular genre?
I would have to say it chose me. I love sci-fi and fantasy. I can’t imagine writing about anything else.
What was your greatest challenge writing this book?
Finding the time in my schedule to write consistently.
Are you published by a traditional house, small press or are you self-published?
I am self-published.
Was it the right choice for you?
I believe it was. Looking back on it, I don’t think that I would have done anything differently if given the choice.
How are you promoting your book thus far?
I am promoting it online, and I hired a publicist.
How is that going for you?
I must say it is going pretty well thus far.
Can you tell us one thing you have done that actually resulted in one or more sales?
Any one thing may be hard to pinpoint, but interviews such as these are always a big help. Thank you!
Do you have another job besides writing?
Yes, I am a Systems Analyst.
If you could give one book promotion tip to new authors, what would that be?
To get out there and tweet, speak, shout, do whatever you need to bring your work into the public consciousness. The more people know of your work, the more likely you will have sales.
What’s next for you?
The second novel in this series. I am working on it right now.
Thank you for this interview, O.S. Can you tell us where we can find you on the web?
