Ah, remember the 1970’s? It was a simpler time, we knew what was really real, (or so we thought) and spoke our minds.
One of the most bandied about phrases was; “America, LOVE it or LEAVE it”. Do you remember that old chestnut? It needs to be dusted off and refurbished to fit the situation we now find ourselves mired into. But which variation best describes our response? “The Constitution, It defines us; if you can’t abide by it, LEAVE”! Or, Freedom: If you don’t know what to do with yours, just get out of everybody else’s way”! Or, Liberty: if it is too much for you here, there are totalitarian states that would LOVE to have you. In fact, if you are that troubled about all the niceties in the Constitution that you don’t like anyone to have, the solution is easy; Go to a country that doesn’t have one, and has all of their guns in the hands of government.
Stories abound how Americans move into rural areas where the land is cheaper, then complain because they are downwind from a pig farm. Or move within earshot of a rifle range (or the local airport) then want it shut down. Apparently these same types want to move into politics so they can change everything to their whim. Their attitude seems to be “If _I_ don’t like it, then you shouldn’t want it either; In fact, NOBODY should want it!” Then they try to find examples to fit their needs. Some are quite a stretch.
This is all well and good when it comes to ‘adopt a law’ lawmaking. Normally they used to make these little impulse laws to satisfy some little perceived failure in their last slew of prohibitions pointed out by some person. So they name their creations after people; Brady, Meghan, Ryan White, the Donda West Bill, to make them sound human. After all what harm can it do? However, it is SUPPOSED to be difficult, if not impossible to start tweaking the US Constitution for personal reasons. The idea is to prevent ‘acting in haste and repenting in leisure’, which has become the norm…
Britain solved that problem centuries ago by coming up with the “Divine right of Kings” scheme of things, so no one could question their decrees, or motives. Apparently our legislators want to adopt that scheme here.
Were it that we felt the same as the Brits. But our people are waking up. The game of politics has become just that. It takes an inordinate amount of money just to ante’ up to play. That in itself discourages almost all of the 99% from playing. As a result the people in power now are not al all concerned with the well being of the masses. They don’t bother to even try to understand them. It is all about amassing wealth. When they get (s)elected, they suddenly feel closer to that big brass ring called ‘dynasty’. There is only one thing left in their way, The Constitution.
Anyone can see that they revile the Constitution as an impediment, and the ‘Oath’ they take to defend it has just as much meaning and sentiment as their marriage vows, for most of them. In fact, getting elected seemingly allows them to selectively pick and choose but a few of the 10 Commandments they will ultimately choose to acknowledge. Once elected their relationship to us goes from being a ‘Public Servant’ to demanding public servitude from the rest of us.
One of the neat little tricks they’ve adopted is the Constitutional ‘side-step’. If the government is not allowed to do something… that’s easy, create a corporate entity, and outsource the dirty work to them. Google can spy, Telecoms can listen, and soon all televisions will be 2 way, and tabulate all possible informational reports to sell to government offices everywhere. The words privacy, rights confidentiality, obscurity, anonymity, and unmolested have all lost their meaning. The phrase “Not be infringed” is now open to interpretation and conjecture, as well as selective application.
All of this hasn’t gone unnoticed by the people. Nor has the desperation of those in power to shore up their absolute power. Just the tendencies we were warned about. We are being processed by our system, by our numbers, and they are removing our last lines of defense. We’re supposed to be afraid of everything. Not only that, but little by little we are being told we must prove our worthiness for these (now) government granted privileges.
What needs to be effected here, to win the hearts and minds of their people, is to enforce the Divine Law of “Do unto others”, among our public servants. If they pass a law prohibiting insider trading, they have to abide by it. If they promise something they have to do it, if welfare mothers have to be drug tested, so must they. We’re watching our ‘Servants’ putting on the equivalent of powdered wigs and knee-highs and bossing us around. They have a ‘Public Hearings’ charade, before passing bills that have been pre-determined. What is wrong with this picture?
If there IS a public hearing everyone is allotted their precious seconds of time inversely proportional to the importance of the issue under discussion. Otherwise, it gets passed behind closed doors in the middle of the night, preferably on a holiday weekend. Is it any wonder that the people are getting suspicious?
Instead of trying to rectify the problems, and clean up their act, they offer sermons from on high. Meanwhile they keep piling on more shingles to try to stop all the leaks, and everyone knows that the roof is going to collapse of its own weight.
Instead of trying to win our respect, they fawn at the feet of the lobbyists and sell just what the doctors are ordering, so to speak. Everybody knows but can’t figure out where the STOP button is, even while they change the rules as much as they can every day; and not a responsible felon has gone to jail. Do they even know what their job is supposed to be? Surely they have one and they read it, or could they just be making this up as they go along?
And instead of listening to our concerns they pooh poo them away, while arming the federalistas to fight off a regular army, and pumping them up with toys to do it with. Not finding a nearby army to fight, in their boredom, they are beginning to look at us funny. Are you concerned about that, or is that what you were hoping they would do. Why are you asking the Army if they are willing to shoot civilians? As we’ve seen the police don’t have any problems with that anymore. Why the collective punishment and suspicious questions and censorship that we left behind in Europe? Why now, what have we done wrong? Are we even allowed to ask that question, let alone demand an answer? IF you like Europe, the Mediterranean, or even Australia, (no guns and has royalty) go!
The economy is tanking, and we’re expected to pay all the bills while you send people out to kill other people for no other reason than ideology, and send us the bill? If you REALLY want peace, you are not the ones who know anything about it. Perhaps if we asked some peaceful islanders or how about Eskimos they might explain how they avoided war, and we could apply the same measures? We’ve had constant wars since the 30’s with no break in sight. In fact we don’t even bother to declare them wars anymore. Isn’t that one of Congress’s few, actual ‘job descriptions’?
It seems we have gone full circle (spiral?) now. History is repeating itself, Rome is burning and our wealth is being passed around, and our houses plundered and sold. Most all of our ‘agencies’ do the opposite of their stated goals. The crazy part is that most of us don’t have a clue how we got here. However now is the time for introspection and discussions with our peers. Collectively we may be able to think of a way to get back on track, but we have to do it before we let them wreck it. The pieces will be too small to ever put back together.
What kind of country do you want to live in; a friendly coexistent one, or one where we all suspect everyone of anything. The path we are being led to looks, feels, and smells all wrong. Look down the road, do you see sunshine and warmth, or an endless grind with ‘guards cracking whips to keep the treadmill going.Three questions for our leaders: “What did we do wrong”? “Where are you taking us”? “Have you got the guts to stop it”?
In the mean time, were we to bring the Constitution back into play, we could correct all of the attempts that went too far and infringed on our God given rights, bingo; Unconstitutional!. Those people, who think the Constitution is an outdated relic, are welcome to vote with their feet; it would at least be a start. Go now, while there are still some good dictators left. And hurry up, so we can get this party started, in a civilized way.
