Mary Owen was found alive after spending a week on Mount Hood in Oregon. The 23-year-year-old college student had a broken ankle and was suffering from frostbite when a National Guard helicopter crew found her. According to a March 31 report by the Inquisitr, Mary Owen was flown to a Portland hospital to be treated for her injuries.
Mary Owen went hiking for spring break. The hike began on March 24. She emailed a friend, explaining she’d be back later that day, Sunday, or on Monday. When Mary Owen didn’t return, her friend contacted her father to check on her.
Bruce Owen, Mary Owen’s father, explained during an interview that his daughter was going to hike Mount Hood with a group. It appears that plan did not materialize. Mary Owen was found alone and no other missing persons reports have been filed. According to Bruce Owen, Mary Owen was an experienced hiker, but didn’t have any experience of “technical climbing.”
Mary Owen is still at Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center. At the time of publication, the exact extent of her injuries were unknown. It appears the hiker found on Mount Hood will make a full recovery.
