Free samples at supermarkets, especially around lunch time, are enough for anyone to try something new. It is also a fantastic way to find new clients. At least that’s one way Grande Tamales is expanding their market share here at The Woodlands.
The company, run by owners Higinio and Ascencion Amado, has taken over the tamales nitch north of the city of Houston. The couple sells a variety of different tamales, both sweet and savoury, at our local Grogan’s Mill Farmer’s Market on Saturdays and at the three HEB locations. Their set up includes a cooler with frozen tamales, some fresh ones and an array of samples. They’re not there all day, every day so be sure to check their website, www.grandetamales.com, to know where you can expect to find them.
The tamales are very genuine and can be bought in 2lb containers. That’s roughly 2 or 3 servings. Their price? $11. A little pricey, but worth the variety and the flavour.
The company also offers other items you can purchase online to pick up at any of their four locations and are looking into expanding their offerings beyond Mexican food. These tamales make a great breakfast item along with some scrambled of fried eggs and black beans.
How do I reheat them for best results? Steaming is the way to go. Their container is perfect for this, but it can also be accomplished otherwise if you don’t want to heat all the tamales in one go.
