Rising young actor Richard Harmon took time out of his busy filming schedule to chat with his fans. At just 21, Harmon already has a mile long successful filmography including Syfy Channel’s ‘Continuum’, AMC’s ‘The Killing,’ and the film ‘Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.’ With a full schedule of shooting season two of ‘Continuum’ and promoting A&E’s horror hit ‘Bates Motel’, he finds time for inspiration from the music of Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan, and squeezes in some ‘SpongeBob SquarePants.”
Q. Can you share a little about your upcoming Syfi Channel’s “Scarecrow?”
A. It was a lot of fun and Nicole’s (Munoz) a sweetheart. It’s pretty much all in the title. A group of kids on detention go with their teacher and they have to clean up this old barn. It’s a year of the scarecrow festival, and slowly we just start droppin’ like flies.
Q. Tell your fans about your character of Richard Sylmore on ‘Bates Motel’ and your experiences on the set.
A. Absolutely, it was so much fun. The set is such a well-run set. It’s very smooth. I had the pleasure of working with Freddie Highmore and he was such a lovely person; such a professional. The creative team was amazing. Tucker Gates directs most of my episodes. He is such an awesome guy. They do what’s in the best interest of the show. They know what they’re trying to make and they do it so well.
Q. You were amazing on ‘The Killing.’ It seems like your roles have been pretty dramatic. Have you done much comedy?
A. I haven’t done much comedy, I would love to. I love doing dramatic roles, but I’d love to do comedy. I think it would be refreshing. Working on the set was the best (The Killing). Everybody is so prepared for what their job is, and they execute it so well. The experience was so terrific. It was a different experience from season one to season two. It was kind of sad being on set every day because of the subject matter. Everyone had to try to keep their spirits up.
Q. Tell your fans about your role on ‘Continuum’ season 2
A. The main thing that takes up my time is actually my show ‘Continuum.’ We are shooting season two right now. Season two will premiere in the US early June. My character’s name is Julian Randall, he is very anti corporation and tries to blow up a building unsuccessfully which ends up getting him arrested. Season two picks up with Julian in jail.
Q. Do you have any hidden talents?
A. Well, I’m kind of a one trick pony. I am a big ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ fan. I actually have a Spongebob sticker on my phone.
Q. If you were a baseball player, what would your walk up song be?
A. I actually use Al Pacino’s speech from the end of ‘Any Given Sunday’ before going to set. It pumps me up. As far as a walk up song ‘The Man Comes Around’ by Johnny Cash, or anything Bob Dylan.
