he first thing I am struck by in Chapter 6 is the word <strong>Fear</strong>. I wonder in amazement still at the power of our God. My morning mediation is 2 Timothy 1:7 NKJ
<blockquote>7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.</blockquote>
Isn’t that a wonderful verse? He has not given us a spirit of fear. Living in fear is not God’s intention. His intention for us is to live in the spirit of power, love and sound mind.
Again, I take issue with Mrs. Pearl’s dreadful mission. She writes “cause young wives to be aware that there are consequences to their actions” (pg 57). Why is this Debi’s job? It is not! It is Gods job. How great she thinks she is, how great. My great advice to Debi is to “humble you or God will do it for you.”
<blockquote> 32 If you have been foolish in exalting yourself,
Or if you have devised evil, <em>put your</em> hand on <em>your</em> mouth.</blockquote>
Do not be a young wife living in fear, I want you to know that God has something greater for you. Step away from the fear and be reborn into a life that is filled with power, love and sound mind.
Debi continues to proclaim that “an old woman without a man is nothing” (pg 58.) How sad to think that if a woman doesn’t have a man in her old age she is nothing. What about the woman who loved wholly and was widowed before 50. She does not search for love because she had it and feels comfortable in her role as widow. Is she nothing because her husband dies and she does not seek to replace him? NO! She is whole and complete in her relationship with Christ. You do not need a man to fulfill God’s purpose in your life at any age!
If you feel “mental instability” by your fortieth year and you have done nothing more than be a man’s helpmeet do not despair, there is time for you to fulfill what God truly intended for your life. Start praying for God to show you where you will be of the greatest service and the doors to your new life will open up in unexpected ways. Be ready for the changes God has for you. As you pray to be the whole woman God created you for, notice your “mental instability” diminish.
Let me make an additional note. <strong>If you feel repeated sadness or despair</strong> and no amount of praying or scripture reading is helping, seek out a licensed professional counselor or therapist. Mental illness is not punishment from God for a sinful life. It is an illness that happens like any other. If you broke a bone wouldn’t you go to the doctor to help heal it? Most of us would. It is not against God to seek help. God created therapists too. And some of them will pray with you during your session so keep searching until you find someone who meets your needs.
Debi Pearls final instruction in this book is to look up the word fear in the King James Version. Let me tell you, I went back to my favorite <em>The Strongest Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible.</em> I am exhausted looking at the number of times the word fear appears in the bible. I estimate it at 500 times. There are almost as many verses that say “fear not” as “fear.” Take your pick and apply the ones that meet your needs for your life today.
Matthew 10:28-31 NIV
<blockquote>28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.[<a title=”See footnote a” href=”http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2010:28-33&versi… 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.</blockquote>
