Whether in politics, music or fashion, I am always amazed by the power of grassroots movements. Driven by the community and for the community, quite often, the undertakings are started on a local level before moving to a more grand scale. Accordingly, it has been a joy to see the LiFE KiT Lifestyle Co. brand grow exponentially over the years.
With a Kickstarter campaign and new goals for the near future, the lifestyle brand’s creators are well on their way to building an empire without compromising.

Q: Describe your individual personal style(s)…
A: We pretty much just keep it simple.
Q: How did LifE KiT Lifestyle Co. come to fruition?
A: It was around the time when Jesus Head necklaces and rosaries were really popular. Instead of buying into the fad, we thought it would be cool to design wooden accessories for ourselves and friends, but do it in a way that challenged people to look at the world a little differently. We applied our own aspirations along with a collective desire to make a difference into everything that we did. Soon we launched a blog and e-commerce platform, add[ed] a few dedicated team members, and expanded our product offering to build upon the brands core values and classic style.
Q: What inspired the now infamous “Stay Humble” campaign and what was the significance of the movement to your brand’s overall vision?
A: We were simply inspired by the beautiful reality that is the human narrative. The ups and the downs. The highs and the lows. Though we are all different, adversity is the one thing that reminds us of our humanity. It reminds us to appreciate the little things and the things we often take for granted. We believe the Stay Humble Campaign has the power to connect people from all walks of life; We aspire to connect the entire world.
Q: Celebrities such as Terrence J have adorned your clothing. What role do you believe celebrity branding has played in your brand’s progression?
A: Some, but most of our progress has been due to our grassroots efforts. Talking and networking with regular people.
Q: As independent designers, what has been the biggest challenge for you all, thus far?
A: We have a dynamic business structure so, figuring out how to make all the wheels move forward in the same direction all at once is a challenge. We make it happen though.
Q: You all just launched a Kickstarter campaign with a $20,000 goal in mind. If (and when) you reach your goal, what’s the next step?
A: The funds will be used for the sourcing and production of our 2013 collection, improvements to our online platform, and to expand our grassroots marketing campaign. We also hope to hit a few trade and trunk shows this year.
Q: What advice can you all offer other up-and-coming lifestyle brands?
A: Always do what feels right and don’t do it by yourself.
