Hundreds of animal lovers and their plethora of family pets ranging from the biggest to the smallest of God’s creatures participated in the ceremonial ‘Blessing of the Animals’ on Saturday, March 30th in downtown Los Angeles.
The event took place on Olvera Street at El Pueblo Historic Park. Animals with their human companions assembled on the north side of the plaza as they followed a procession of gaily decorated animals making their way past a colorful stage with Archbishop Jose Gomez performing the blessing with two huge tubs of holy water.
The five hour event was free to the public offering a fun-filled afternoon for the entire family complete with free pony rides, a petting zoo, food vendors, cultural music and entertainment, as well as a Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic offering free chip implants for dogs and cats.
‘Blessing of the Animals’ is a beautiful L.A. tradition that began in 1930 and continues till this day as a way of giving thanks to our animal companions and all the love and happiness they provide for us and our families.
