Last night season seven of “Face Off” began, with twists and turns for these fascinating makeup artists. McKenzie Westmore –the host- met the 16 artists at the iconic Vibiana Event Space in Los Angeles, CA. formerly known as the Cathedral of St. Vibiana, and there she informed them that they were not in the show just yet, their final audition challenge was about to begin and after judgment only 14 would move on to compete in this season.
This season is all about Life and Death and accordingly their final audition would involve that theme, each artist would need to pick a model from either theme. They all were concerned about the upcoming double elimination based on only four hours of work, that challenge indeed encompassed the sudden death title.
The clichés abounded and the insecurities were heard from all sides, others as usual were overly aggressive; but ultimately it was up to the judges to decide who walked the walk, and eliminate those who just talked the talk the judges were Glenn Hetrick and Neville Page.
The first theme to be examined was Life and most of the make ups did not represent the theme, Scott’s was muddled and did not make sense, Dina’s –who by the way quit her job to be on the show and is a cake decorator- created a makeup that was beautiful and without doubt represented the theme. Death was next and these all to an extent underlined the subject matter, however, three came a bit short Jason, Gabby, and Gwen. Scott was sent home because his work did not stand up to the level of competition this show is about, and also Gabby was eliminated.
And Dina the most frightened of them all wound up taking the win, she is a very likable person who so far does not display any of the characteristics that make a contestant disagreeable, she works hard, hopes for the best, and yet doubts herself without seeming self-condescending or overly dramatic, which appear to be personality flaws of those who just wish to be cuddled and inspire pity.
