Zendaya and Valentin Chmerkovskiy topped the “Dancing With the Stars” leader board once again on April 15, but this time, the dynamic 16-year-old Disney star and her pro partner danced side by side with Val’s brother Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Anna Trebunskaya, not an easy task for anyone. However, Zendaya pulled it off so well that Bruno Tonioli told her she was just as good as the pro and “the best we’ve seen.”
The dramatic Argentine Tango earned Zendaya and Val a near-perfect score of 29, the highest score of the night with a dance neither Zendaya nor Val had ever danced before. The fact that Zendaya instilled this dance with a passion she claimed she didn’t know anything about in the rehearsal clips is proof positive of this amazing teenager’s acting talent.
Zendaya voiced the feelings of most celebs on last night’s show, that having a pro couple with them in rehearsals really made a difference. Before the show, Zendaya told OTRC, “I think it’s nice to have two other pros in our number, which is like kind of scary and intimidating as well because they’re professionals and that’s kind of tough to dance like the professionals,” she added. “But it’s gonna be cool. I’m excited.”
Of course, people were interested in how Val handled the choreography for the steamiest of Latin dances with a 16-year-old partner.
“I think, you know, it’s a different kind of way, obviously, we’re gonna do things. It’s how we’ve been doing it. Obviously I’m 16, and things are going to be a little different, but, you know, that’s why I have this guy,” Zendaya said. “He knows what the deal is. I know what the deal is. My parents definitely know what the deal is. So it’s good. “
“And I definitely know that her parents know the deal,” Valentin said with a laugh.
It was obvious that everyone knew what the deal was. They pulled it off with flair to spare and even impressed Len Goodman who told Zendaya it was a “gem of a dance.” The two 10s and one nine gave evidence to the fact that it truly was.
We know Zendaya and Val won’t be going home on the results show, but will they be doing the encore dance? Super Bowl star Jacoby Jones said his goal was to do the encore dance and he did pretty good out there last night, too. Tune in Tuesday, April 16 at 8 p.m. eastern on ABC for the results show, featuring entertainment by Selena Gomez, The Band Perry and some spectacular dance numbers. Don’t miss a step!
