Lady Mary Crawley will move on without husband Matthew, but with baby George and her new life as Season Four of smash hit Downton Abbey opens. Unless some supernatural force causes director Julian Fellowes and actor Dan Stevens to come to a new agreement, Matthew will die as a result of his car accident which ended Season Three.
This will leave Lady Mary to temporarily step into her late husband Matthew’s shoes as she tries to move the management of Downton Abbey forward into the 1920’s while her father Lord Grantham , played by actor Hugh Bonneville, continues efforts to fight the changes which history is bringing to the aristocratic estates system in England.
Fans remain enthusiastic in Texas despite the anticipated departure of matinee idol Matthew Crawley because of Stevens decision to film a new movie involving Julian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks.
Several women in North Texas who had not yet seen Downton Abbey were asking their friends who have already seen the first three seasons, how best to obtain a copy of the series which is a hit in both England and the U.S. One woman suggesting buying copies over the Internet through PBS which has broadcasted the series on Sunday evenings in the U.S. The show has broken all viewing record for PBS viewership.
Another lady recommended renting the incredible hit through Red Box movies.
One lady laughed and said, “My husband walked through the room the other day and said, ‘Are you watching that Downtown(sic) Arbey’s(sic) show again?’ while she watched the latest episode.”
There may be a commercial idea in there somewhere for the Arbey’s food chain.
While more women then men probably do love the show, men who have an interest in history often find it worth following as history is a major force in the show. The first episode of the first season begins with the sinking of the Titanic which supposedly wipes out the next heir to Downton Abbey to whom Lady Mary is engaged. The series continues to move against the broad canvas of history as Matthew Crawley and several servants from Downton Abbey face death in the chaos of World War I. The characters then face the major changes to the estate system in postwar England as the government levies heavy property taxes on the estates.
American actress Shirley MacLaine will return as the mother of Lady Cora Crawley.
Downton Abbey is actually acted out in the historically famous Highclere Castle, owned by the Lord Carnarvon family.
Acress Siobhan Finneran announced she will not return to play the role of the villainess maid O’Brien who caused Lady Mary to miscarriage in the series.
While many fans have been disgruntled by the tragic death of Matthew Crawley, one would probably be safe in betting the series will continue to be a favorite when Season Four opens!
