A Daily Word from the Word for Wednesday, May 1, 2013
“I [Jesus]am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.” – John 10:9
I love green pastures. When I gaze upon such a scene, it speaks and brings about sensations in me of life, peace, tranquility, security, safety, protection, care freeness, joy, contentment, provision, and fulfillment. What about you, my brother? Do you desire the oasis of a green pasture to escape the cannibalistic ways of the world? How about you, my sister? Do you need some peace, and a feeling of safety in your life?
Jesus offers us the provision of a pasture wherever we go: both as a form of a provision, of meeting every need; but most importantly, as His peace that surpasses all understanding, on the inside. Yes, family, Jesus becomes that pasture on the inside of every believer, as well as our ultimate provider for our lives.
These past two years, I have been going through such a trial that I have never experienced before; actually, both me and my son have been going through simultaneous trials. It feels like the devil threw hell itself into my life! But you know what? The devil is a big fat liar! As sons and daughters of the Most High Father, we walk by faith in God, and not by circumstances and situations that the devil or the world throws our way (2 Corinthians 5:7).
As people of God, we don’t bow to circumstances and situations, but we make those things bow to us! I say all of this to say that despite all hell breaking loose for the past two years, I sleep like a baby. I get up each morning and do what I need to do (which includes writing God’s column here for you). I am able to function and have a sweet sleep each night because I have a pasture in me! The Savior who lives in me is my Green Pasture! Jesus is my peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Jesus provides a pasture that you can’t put a price tag on! I am getting excited just writing about it! How I love the Name of Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! Amen, family! Say it one more time: JESUS! :-).
The Greek Word for “pasture” as used in this verse is nome (pr. nom-ay), and means “feeding, grazing, pasturage, The Gospel [of Jesus Christ]” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). The Sanctified Pasture Himself testifies that “man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). It is through feeding on the Word of God, Who is Jesus Christ, that every other provision is unlocked and bestowed upon us: life, health, wholeness, restoration, wisdom, peace, love, joy, goodness, mercy, gentleness, kindness, grace, finances, and every other good thing. Matthew 6:6 sings this holy song of agreement: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Jesus is the pasture, and He is also the door that leads to the pasture. “Door” used here is thura (pr. thoo-rah), which is “an entrance, a literal or figurative opening or closure, gate.” When we enter through Jesus, we not only enter into our new life of green pasture, but we close those doors of lack, death, and destruction! When Jesus rebuked the devil and said “Get behind Me, Satan!” (Matthew 16:23), He gave those who enter into Him and through Him the same authority to speak against such things in our lives!
When we come to Jesus Christ, and step through the Door, we are shutting the door to every undesirable thing in our life, are putting these things to death, and burying them in the cemetery of the past. Jesus gave us full authority to reprimand and silence every face of lack. We can declare “Get behind me, sickness! Get behind me, poverty! Get behind me, discouragement! Get behind me, suicide! Get behind me, confusion! Get behind me, foolishness! Get behind me, chaos! Get behind me, lust! Get behind me, unhealthy relationships!” EVERYTHING FAMILY! EVERYTHING! So rebuke every area in your life that is not good! Do it now, my brother! Don’t put it off, my sister! Do it now!
We can “go in and out and find pasture,” because again, Jesus creates our pasture on the inside that we permanently carry wherever we go; and what is in us will pour out of us “because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4). When we enter into Jesus, we are “saved’ (sozo, pr. sode-zo); meaning, we are “delivered, protected, healed, preserved, made whole.”
Are you ready to move to that place where you can graze freely and contently, my brother? Is that lush green pasture calling to you, my sister? Then enter in.
Father, thank You for Your green pasture found only in Your Son, Jesus Christ. Break the pull and bonds of the world off of us, so that we can enter in freely and willingly into that place of safety, security, and provision that You have prepared for us through the death and resurrection of Your Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Draw us to You Most Loving Father, in a more intimate way. In Jesus Name, we thank You that, by Your Son, we enter in to Your Green Pasture.
Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to ask for and seek the ancient paths, which are found in and through Jesus Christ; to ask where the good way is, and walk in it, for this is where you will find rest for your soul (Jeremiah 6:16). Allow Jesus to live within you and set up His Green Pasture in your being. And continue to fight the good fight of grazing in the pasture; for God, your Most Tender Shepherd, has already given you the victory!
If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
