Walt Disney has traveled to “Downton Abbey” to get their new princess, The Hollywood Reporter reports.
The studio said Tuesday that Lily James, who plays Lady Rose MacClare on the acclaimed PBS series, will play the title character in Disney’s new live-action version of “Cinderella.”
Kenneth Branagh is directing the film, which will also star Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett as the evil stepmother.
THR said “Harry Potter” star Emma Watson was in talks to play Cinderella, but the deal never materialized. IMDb also listed “Dark Shadows” star Bella Heathcote as “rumored” for the role.
The announcement comes the same day that Laura Osnes was nominated for a Best Actress in a Musical Tony Award for her portrayal of the title character in Broadway’s “Cinderella.”
