Two hundred friends and family gathered on Saturday to witness the nuptials of Dallas Wiens and Jamie Nash. This wedding was unique because it was the joining of two people that have been through unimaginable physical pain but their love is so strong they are embracing their future together as husband and wife.
In 2008, Wiens was a single father of a young daughter. While working on construction at a church, a freak accident had his face destroyed and eyesight taken by a high voltage power line. The fact that he survived was a miracle in itself. Through the amazing work of surgeons, Wiens is the first person in the U.S. to receive a full face transplant. While he didn’t recover his eyesight, he did receive a face with slight feeling which allowed him to feel his young child’s kisses on his cheek again.
In 2010, Nash nearly died after a horrific car wreck near Ennis after she had been texting; she was badly burned on her back, hands, and legs.
The two initially met at a burn survivors support group that was held at Parkland Hospital. Wiens had no interest in finding love again but Nash was smitten immediately. She has said that he lost his eyesight, but she still has hers. And while her hands were badly damaged, his were not.
Wishes for a true “happily ever after” goes out to these two powerful and beautiful people!
