Sacramento radio station, KHYL, better known as, V101.1 seems to have made some changes since the Daily thought: Sacramento radio stations … – tapeunit.com article was posted. Before reading this article, please reflect on the following questions:
Can energy be destroyed? Does music have the power to change your mood, thoughts and/or perception?
What are your thoughts about the music on Sacramento Region radio stations? Do you believe that music has an energy, a frequency that has the ability to control and/or modify behavior? If so, what kind of energy do you think only old R&B music might generate?
What did Ancient African’s/Egyptian’s believe about music and it’s power? Can music have the power of words even if there are no words?
Lastly, reflecting back on not the music of the older R&B but, what was going on during the era the music was made? What level of oppression was the world in during that time and could the energy of that time frame be transferred through music making Sacramento seem a little, “slower” than other popular California cities even if the song is a favorable one?
Previously, V101.1 would only play oldies, really old oldies only. While everyone likes to get their oldie “groove-on,” V101.1 was/is the closest thing to a sincere R&B music station so not hearing newer R&B music in the cycle was a huge disappointment for most.
Recently, V101.1 has begun to play more recent R&B oldies and while the station still has not moved up to cycles of the latest R&B, listeners do not feel like they have to be in a certain mood or be 50 or older to listen to it.
As mentioned, the older-golden R&B artist and music can be extremely soothing. In fact, it is difficult to find an R&B music lover who does not enjoy, “the oldies” but the lack of recent R&B tracks on any Sacramento station may be frustrating to listener’s.
Sure, one can hear the latest R&B sounds but, only if they like techno and high energy just as much because the Sacramento KSFM 102.5 station may play an R&B song but is contrasted with high-energy and techno the majority of the time. Not only is the station way to heavy with techno music, 102.5 has actually been labeled as a Hip-Hop station but any true Hip-Hop lover can assure you that 102.5 would not really qualify as a Hip-Hop station because of the predominantly techno and high energy music it cycles.
V101.1 has begun to play more variety but it seems they are still a bit confused. Variety has changed to include more oldies from the R&B of the 1990’s but strangely, they even managed to throw some Tupac in periodically playing, “California Love” in between a Keith Sweat and Aretha Franklin song…go figure.
Patience will eventually give Sacramento region’s true R&B lovers what they need and currently, the Sacramento African American Issues Examiner is working with investors as an attempt to figure out how to give the people who live in the region the healing energy of newer R&B music.
