It is rough enough finding products that work in our ever changing California climate, between the excessive heat, and the uncanny and increasingly sporadic cold days, it’s nearly impossible to find products that work all of the time, let alone most of the time.
Enter Clarisonic Mia 3. Clarisonic has been on the market for years now, and as I’m never one to jump on any bandwagon, especially when it comes to my ever aging (which i’m constantly trying to beat out) skin, I waited many years of informercials, and the skincare system breaking into all of the major retailers before even considering using it.
After being skeptical of the Clarisonic products for many years, and being absolutely dead set in my ideas of certainty that if I used it, the machine would scrape my entire face off and ruin my skin, I finally bit the bullet and tried the Mia 3.
This decision wasn’t made lightly, after looking online at many outlets and scouring the internet for negative reviews, I was sitting in my, now former dermatologist office bringing it up to her hoping she would say not to use it.
You might be wondering, why former? Well, it’s simple really, we had creative differences over the types of peels that would work for my skin. I don’t like paying for treatments that aren’t aggressive enough and I don’t like improper billing, no one does. I quickly realized I belonged at my longtime dermatologist in Studio City (while much farther away) I was concurrenlty seeing for laser hair removal anyway, though this place was closer, one can’t put a price tag on comfort, convenience, and perfection… but I digress.
It was at my former dermatologist’s office during a SkinMedica Vitalize Peel, where she suggested I get the Clarisonic to help with the slogging off of skin after peel and for daily use to help with post workout breakouts. (Note that I experienced no peeling or slogging of of skin from the peel) I then double checked with my Studio City dermatologist and they concurred that it was a safe product when used properly. Yes, I realize I double booked myself but when it comes to my health I demand the best and a second option is always a good thing. Again, I digress.
After reassurance from two dermatologist offices I chose to purchase the Mia 3 at Nordstrom, just incase I hated it. After all, $200, in this economy, is a lot of money to be possibly throwing away, being that I’m not a gambler, Nordstom, with their awesome return policy, was the place for me.
To my happy surprise Clarisonic Mia 3 has become a daily staple for my skincare regimen.
After the first use I found my makeup went on smoother, my skincare products penetrated much better, breakouts diminished, my pores clogged less, any dry flakey skin from our odd California weather this year was removed safely and effectively. My skin looked more radiant and youthful. I was cautiously optimistic as I was convinced that at some point in the next 2 weeks my skin would freak out and i’d have some sort of allergic reaction. It never happened. My skin was able to tolerate the Mia 3 very well.
I have interesting skin in that it tolerates chemicals aka peels and retinoids really well. However, I can’t handle certain ingredients including Bismuth Oxychloride (which is in half, if not most of the mineral based makeup products), half the chemicals in most makeup, and most chemical sunscreens. I either break out or have some sort of negative skin reaction.
That being said, I am excited to find that one month later I am happy to report the Clarisonic Mia 3 has become my HG (Holy Grail) cleansing method as it removes makeup and nightly skincare items from my face & body without irritation. It cleanses my skin with less washing than what I was doing prior to using Clarisonic.
Prior to the Mia 3 I used 2-3 baby wipes to remove makeup and then performed 2-3 washes and still wondered if my face was really clean. Now I use 1 baby wipe to get the eye makeup off and one cycle with the Clarisonic and BAM, my face is clean and ready for the night treatments.
I would absolutely recommend Clarisonic to anyone who is looking for a better skincare routine and/or who is looking for their skin to be healthier and more radiant looking. No, this isn’t a miracle product but it will reduce breakouts and keep your skin clean, as well as incredibly well exfoliated.
Clarisonic Mia 3 comes with a drying stand, a USB & outlet charger, instructions, one brush head, and some Clarisonic brand face wash, if you choose that package, which I found to be very pungent though it didn’t irritate my skin. Clarisonic Mia 3 can be used with any cleanser, I use it with my Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser: http://tapeunit.com/review/neutrogena-fresh-foaming-cleanser
What Clarisonic claims directly from their website:
“Clarisonic’s patented sonic technology gently removes the impurities traditional cleaning methods leave behind, cleansing six times better than your hands alone. In just 60 seconds, its sonic action removes impurities from pores so that creams, serums, and moisturizers are more effective. And with regular daily use you’ll notice a reduction in dry patches, oily areas, and blemishes.
Clarisonic Mia 3 infuses sonic cleansing with a harmonic blend of function and form. Sleek, modern, intuitive, Mia 3 sings with three speeds, a real-time battery-life indicator, USB-enabled pLink charger, and a drying stand that converts to a charging station when coupled with the pLink charger.
What else you need to know:
Clarisonic has the power to remove 30 times more age-accelerating pollutants than manual cleansing.
-Prior to the first use, charge the Clarisonic handle for 24 hours.
-Remove eye makeup by hand.
-Wet your skin and the brush head with warm water.
-Liberally apply cleanser to your skin or to the brush head.
-Push the on/off button to turn your Clarisonic on and gently move the brush using a small circular motion, beginning on the forehead, then moving to the nose/chin area and the cheeks as the T-TIMER prompts.
-Pressing too hard will impede the motion of the brush and reduce its effectiveness.
-The outer brushes are designed to contain any residual mist from the brush oscillation, so be sure to hold the brush head flush to your skin.
-The Clarisonic handle is waterproof and may be used in the shower or bathtub.
-For best results, replace your Clarisonic brush head every three to four months.
-Get a separate brush head for each user.
-Using the Clarisonic to remove makeup may stain the bristles, but will not affect performance.
-If discoloration occurs, clean the brush head with soap and water.
With one finger on the pulse of technology and another on that of skincare, Clarisonic knows a thing or two about antiaging techniques. The development team, led by the primary inventor of the cutting-edge Sonicare® toothbrush, is committed to creating new ways to shed years off your skin.”
In short, Clarisonic Mia 3 is worth the investment and will work well on your face, neck, chest, arms, and back, though unless you have a significant other, or some trusted special friend, it will be difficult to get to hard to reach places on your back since the Mia 3 does not have a compatible body attachment. Luckily my husband loves giving me a hand when I need one.
I love this product so much that I look forward to eventually trying the new Smart Clarisonic which comes with one specific brush head for the body, and one for the face/neck area. If you haven’t tried the Clarisonic products you really need to. Clarisonic Mia 3 will eliminate the need for physical exfoliants beyond the brush tool itself as well as the amount of product and makeup needed on a daily basis, including treatments and moisturizer, thus in the long run, saving you hard earned $$$.
