Are you tired, stressed out, overwhelmed? Is the noise of the city, work, and family; life in general, getting to you and preventing you from having a clear head? It’s no surprise. Daily, life presents challenges, conflicts, stress and clamors for more and more of our attention. It becomes apparent in each of our lives that we need some downtime; quiet time to pause and reflect on where we are in our lives and what it is we want to accomplish. For Christians, this means time to spend with God and to peacefully meditate on where we are as it relates to His plan for our lives. Christian retreats provide the opportunity for Bible Study, meditation, prayer and fasting and hearing from God through His Word and the Holy Spirit.
Christian retreats provide a time to pause and reflect without distractions, commotions, interruptions and the rush of daily life. Quiet solitude allows believers to ponder questions, look inside themselves and to seek answers from God. After spending time at a Christian retreat, believers return to normal life renewed, invigorated, energized and feeling closer to God.
Why a retreat?
What are some of the reasons Christians choose to go to a retreat? They have times in their lives when they desire to reconnect with their inner selves. They feel a need to relax at a very deep level and to rejuvenate their spirit. At a quiet retreat Christians can take time for reflection, get a new perspective, organize their thoughts and calm their minds. We all have challenges in life. Staying at a retreat for awhile provides the opportunity to gain clarity on an issue or consider in detail your life path. For Christians, it means finding meaning in life beyond the daily and material concerns. Christian retreats provide the opening for believers to receive God’s healing, practice their faith, contemplate and create. Christian retreats vary but the majority of them are very quiet places that focus on reflection.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 says, “Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until that day when our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.” (NLT) The spirit, soul and body here refer to the entire being of a person. Paul is saying in this verse that God must be involved in every aspect of a Christian’s life. Christians cannot separate their spiritual life from everything else. They cannot obey God only in some heavenly sense or live for Him only one day out of the week. Christ must dominate totally in the Christian’s life and not just the “religious” part.
In order for Christians to walk holy in every way, they need times of reflection, quietness and calm in order to renew themselves in God’s Word and receive His strength during times of weakness. Here are eight different retreats that provide a Christian atmosphere for total spiritual renewal.
