After recording only its second 70 degree high temperature of the year yesterday, Chicago records its first 80 degree high temperature of 2013 and since September 12, 2012. This ends a 229 day streak without an 80 and ties for the 23rd longest streak on record.
Rockford, after recording its 1st 70 of the year on Monday, recorded its first 80 of 2013 and the first 80 since Sept. 29, 2012. This ends a 212 day streak without an 80 and ties for the 16th longest streak on record. Other cities to record their first 80 of the year so far this afternoon includes Milwaukee, Madison, and La Crosse.
The summer-like airmass was driven by a strong southwesterly wind flow and the presence of sunny to mostly sunny skies.
The summer-like warmth isn’t expected to last long. After today and Wednesday, a cut-off low pressure system will bring unseasonably cool and wet weather to the region. The chance for showers exist Friday through Monday next week.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy and cooler. Chance for showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the lower to mid 60s. Winds east 10-20 mph.
Friday: Mostly cloudy, breezy, and cooler. Showers likely. Highs near 60. Winds east 10-20 mph.
Saturday: Mostly cloudy, wet, and cool. Showers likely. Highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Winds east 10-20 mph.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy and cool. Chance for showers. Highs in the upper 50s. Winds east 5-15 mph.
Monday: Mostly cloudy and cool. Chance for showers. Highs in the lower 60s. Winds north 5-15 mph.
Tuesday: Partly cloudy, dry, and warmer. Highs in the mid to upper 60s. Winds west 5-15 mph.
