I have been helping homeless people for years. There are other people that have been doing the same. The good folks that run soup kitchens, shelters and transitional housing programs are struggling to keep many of the programs afloat. Homelessness is at an all time high due to the recent foreclosure rate and of course drug and alcohol addiction. Then former football player Chad Johnson goes and gets a homeless man off the street and takes him clubbing and out drinking. Come on folks.
I am not a hater at all and I wish the homeless gentleman “Porkchop” all the best but this is the wrong message to send. Mr. Johnson we could use you and your connections as a true advocate for those on the street. Creating a media circus is one thing but creating a media circus for a good cause is another. Sometimes what we do, even if our intentions are good, is not the right thing. If you want to help the homeless you don’t place them on a path to further destruction.
You have given him a temporary life that unless you decide to sustain he will not be able to sustain on his own. You gave him a fish but you have not taught him how to fish. Further more the fish you gave him has lead poison. Since your career is over you are still looking for a spotlight. I am not sure “Porkchop needed you or you needed Porkchop?” Chad call me. God has a place for you. You are invited to do some real kingdom work. “Do your alms in private so that your Father which is in heaven may reward you openly.”
