The Ohio Herb Education Center in Gahanna, Ohio (near Columbus) is offering a free, family-friendly festival on Saturday, May 11 where herb enthusiasts can come and celebrate the many contributions herbs make to our lives.
Herb Day & Harvest Day Known as the “Herb Capital of Ohio,” the city Gahanna is playing host to this annual event being held at the Ohio Herb Education Center located in the Nafzger- Miller House which was built in 1855 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Taking place from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., the Herb Day festivities include paddle boat rides on Big Walnut Creek (weather permitting), herbal trail self-guided tours, herbal samplings at the Herb Center, product demonstrations and various lectures on herbs including “Plants as Edible Landscaping” and “Using Your Garden as Your Medicine Cabinet.” Visitors will also be able to ask local garden and herb experts all their garden questions.
There will be live musical performances by the Shaw Brothers and singer Casey Richmond.
Visitors will also be able to sample and purchase a wide variety of herbal-based foods.
More than 30 herbal, garden-related and artisan vendors will also be on hand with merchandise to purchase. The Herb Center’s gift shop (featuring herbal and Ohio-made products) will also be open. And be sure to check out the plant sale (including peppers and tomatoes) being conducted by the Ohio Herb Education Center.
