The 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs start this evening. Over the next two months tapeunit.com will be your source for how Calgary-born or Calgary-raised players will be doing in the postseason.
National Hockey League players that will be participating in the 2013 playoffs include Patrick Eaves of the Detroit Red Wings, Keaton Ellerby of the Los Angeles Kings, Thomas Hickey of the New York Islanders, Chris Phillips of the Ottawa Senators, Craig Adams of the Pittsburgh Penguins, T.J. Galiardi of the San Jose Sharks, Kris Russell of the Saint Louis Blues, Joe Colborne of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Andrew Ebbett and Mason Raymond of the Vancouver Canucks, and Jay Beagle, Mike Green and Jeff Schultz of the Washington Capitals.
The best player among the bench is Green, who led all Calgary natives that made the postseason this year with 26 points (12 goals and 14 assists). He is one of six defencemen in the group joining Hickey, Ellerby, Phillips, Russell and Schultz. Hickey, Phillips, Russell and Schultz will also be counted on significantly for their respective teams.
Up front, Galiardi and Raymond will see time on the top two lines, while Adams, Eaves, Ebbett and Beagle will be used more in a checking role. Meanwhile don’t expect to see Colborne play much for the Maple Leafs in their opening round series against Boston.
